My Mom’s Chicken Rice is the brainchild of Linda Onn, Malaysia’s popular personality on radio and TV. Linda loves chicken rice and each time she returned to Johor Bahru, her mum would make sure that Linda got to eat the family’s special chicken rice. Back in Kuala Lumpur however, Linda could not find a chicken rice shop which served it the way her mum made it. None came close.
As the saying goes, see a need fill a need; so with that in mind the idea of creating not only a chicken rice restaurant but a commercially based chicken rice restaurant was born. Since Linda’s parents at that point were also running a small-scaled chicken rice restaurant in Johor Bahru, from there too came the idea to commercialise the family’s special chicken rice recipes.
Most importantly Linda wanted to share with everyones her mum’s special chicken rice recipe that she so loves.
The idea for the restaurant’s name – “My Mom’s Chicken Rice” is a tribute to Linda Onn’s mother who taught her the secret behind the family’s chicken rice recipe. MMCR also came to mean the unconditional love between a daugther and mother. , which brought about the birth of a family oriented restaurant.
The tagline “Citarasa Linda Onn” clearly demonstrates Linda Onn’s taste, which she willingly shares with all her fans and especially to those who patronises MMCR.
MMCR’s first restaurant was opened in Ampang Point in 2004. At that time, the MMCR’s menu was limited to only chicken rice. After receiving an overwhelming response, MMCR decided to expand their menu to the current vast variety.
Success of MMCR’s first ever restaurant heralded the idea and creation of more MMCR branches. In 2007, MMCR openedit’s second branch in Tesco Ampang, then in 2015, a thrid branch was opened in AEON Big Wangsa Maju and in 2016 the fourth branch was opened in Tesco Bandar Puteri Bangi.
As a sign of appreciation and convenience to MMCR’s patrons, the menu and services are continually upgraded from time to time.
